Mini review

Centurion is essentially a strategy game of world domination with a sprinkling of real time events thrown in for good measure. As a rookie legion leader you will help guide the Roman Empire to glory (or face destruction). You will be presented with a map and a legion. From there it’s a case of attacking your neighbors or defending against invaders. Once you have started to capture different locations you will have the opportunity to increase taxes and reap the rewards of your empire.

The huddled masses won’t take too kindly to this though so you should throw them a chariot race or gladiator fight every now and again to ease their restlessness. The main course of this game though has to be considered to be on the battlefield. You will command your army in to drive wedges, run the flanks or just melee their way to victory and a larger empire. Generally I’ve found that anyone with a significantly larger army than myself will just pound my army senseless so it’s best just to run away and try to attack the smaller countries. Only then can you return to redeem your earlier cowardliness. Overall Centurion is a strategy game that is well worth a look. It plays very similar to board game such as “Risk” but with a 16-bit feel.
